Police Hunt Man After £2,300 Bank Card Fraud in Romsey
Police want to track down a man caught on CCTV after a brazen distraction theft in Romsey on Monday afternoon, February 22.
79-Year-Old Woman Targeted on Her Driveway
The victim, a 79-year-old lady, returned home in Oatlands between midday and 12.15pm and found two men loitering on her driveway. They asked her for directions, then left – but not before stealing her bank card from her handbag.
Thieves Withdraw £2,300 from Southampton Bank
Her stolen card was quickly used to withdraw £2,300 at a Barclays Bank branch in Southampton’s 1 Road.
Suspects Described as Eastern European Speakers
- First man: About 5ft 10ins, stocky, roughly 50 years old, grey or white hair, light-coloured scarf, coat.
- Second man: Slim, 5ft 11ins, 30s, short curly dark hair, dark jacket, jeans.
Both were white and spoke broken English with an Eastern European accent.
Warnings from Police
PC Claire Browne from local police said: “This is a very rare incident to happen in Romsey and we want to prevent it from happening to anyone else.”
“Please be vigilant with your handbags and purses and do not leave them unattended at any point.”
Anyone with information is urged to come forward and help catch these crooks before they strike again.
