Police officers and volunteers from across the United Kingdom have been honoured in His Majesty the King’s New Year’s Honours List. The awards celebrate exceptional contributions to policing, community safety, and promoting diversity within law enforcement.
Martin Hewitt, Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, praised the recipients, stating: “I congratulate and pay my respects to all recognised for their service to policing in the King’s New Year’s Honours List. It’s fantastic to see so many officers, staff, and volunteers honoured for their efforts in protecting communities year-round.”
Among the top honours, Dr Nina Cope, former Director General at the National Crime Agency, was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath for her services to law enforcement and diversity.
Several senior officers received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for their leadership and work in diversity and counter-terrorism. These include Hadley Gill from the National Crime Agency, David Kevin Lawes of the City of London Police, and Jonathan Peter Mearns from the Metropolitan Police.
Many officers and volunteers were awarded MBEs for their dedicated frontline and community service. Notable recipients include Phillip William Collins, former Detective Inspector at the Metropolitan Police; Nigel William Goodband of British Transport Police; Alicia Charlotte Harper, a campaigner for victims of violent crime; and Simon Peter Couldrey, Detective Superintendent focusing on health and wellbeing.
Community champions such as Nicola Baboneau, Marjorie Zoe Black, and Richard Fox received the British Empire Medal in recognition of their tireless support across policing and charity sectors.
The prestigious King’s Police Medal (KPM) was awarded to outstanding figures including Emma Barnett, Deputy Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police, and Lee Freeman, Chief Constable of Humberside Police. These honours highlight exceptional bravery, leadership, and dedication to public safety.
Special royal honours were also presented. Barbara Gray, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, was made a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order. Commander Adesola Adelekan and retired Metropolitan Police officers Simon Hammett and Fiona Wilson received memberships of the Royal Victorian Order.
The Overseas Territories Police Medal was awarded to Maria Atalioti in Cyprus and Elliott Forbes in Anguilla for their services to policing and diversity abroad.
These awards reflect the extraordinary commitment of police personnel throughout the UK and overseas, recognising their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to keeping communities safe.
