Police on the Isle of Wight have arrested two men following concerns raised by a red Mercedes Sprinter van seen travelling across the island. The van is believed to have crossed on the Wightlink Portsmouth to Fishbourne ferry before being involved in multiple thefts.
Local residents became alarmed after noticing the men acting suspiciously in various locations. They promptly informed Hampshire Constabulary, who responded by tracking the suspects down. A stop-and-search was carried out at the Premier Shop on St Vincent Road in Ryde, where the two men were detained.
The van was reported to have been seen driving through Sandown, Lake, and Green Lane in Shanklin, with residents reporting items being taken from front gardens. Police have reminded the public that removing any items without the owner’s permission, even if they appear to be rubbish, constitutes theft.
The two men, aged 35 and 36, both from London, were arrested at Broadway Crescent, Binstead. They are currently in police custody on suspicion of theft and are assisting with ongoing inquiries.
