A serious crash occurred on the A227 South Street near Culverstone Green on Wednesday, 22 May, at around 3.25pm. The collision involved a bus and a tractor close to the junction with Chapman’s Hill.
Emergency services, including Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, an air ambulance, and Kent Fire and Rescue, responded promptly to the scene. The bus driver and 12 children were taken to hospital for treatment. Additionally, four others received treatment at the scene.
One child remains in serious but stable condition in hospital, while three other casualties are being treated for serious injuries at local hospitals.
A 33-year-old man from East Sussex was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the crash. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is leading the investigation and has appealed for witnesses. Officers are particularly keen to obtain any dashcam or phone footage of the crash.
