Daniel Sydenham, senior parliamentary assistant to Conservative MP Paul Holmes, has been suspended following the emergence of a disturbing Halloween party video. The footage shows Sydenham dressed as the disgraced TV presenter Jimmy Savile, engaging in inappropriate behaviour with an inflatable doll.
The video, initially reported by Scotland’s The National, captures Sydenham wearing a brightly coloured shell suit and tinted glasses, closely resembling Savile’s notorious appearance. In the clip, Sydenham is seen simulating a sexual act on the doll while smiling at the camera. The caption on the video reads, “Jim fixed it for me,” accompanied by a tag linking to Sydenham’s social media profile.
MP Paul Holmes responded promptly to the incident, stating, “I have suspended the individual concerned while an investigation takes place. I in no way condone or tolerate the actions of the individual.” Holmes is currently working with Parliament’s human resources department to manage the situation.
Sydenham joined Paul Holmes’s team in October last year, having previously worked with the Conservative Party and other Tory MPs. The incident has reignited debate around Jimmy Savile’s legacy, given his history as one of Britain’s most infamous sexual predators.
Following Savile’s death in 2011, his crimes were publicly revealed, leading the Metropolitan Police to launch Operation Yewtree, a major investigation into historic sexual abuse cases linked to Savile and others.
