Three Men Held Over Mosque Arson in Peacehaven
Three men have been arrested following a terrifying arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven earlier this month.
Molotov-Style Blaze Could Have Turned Deadly
Emergency services were called to the mosque on Phyllis Avenue at around 9.50pm on Saturday, October 4. Witnesses reported two suspects doused the mosque’s front door with an accelerant before setting it alight – all while worshippers were inside.
Thankfully, no one was injured. But police warned the attack could have had devastating consequences.
Suspects in Custody as Investigation Heats Up
The Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team arrested three men aged 34, 38, and 42 – two from Peacehaven and one from nearby Seaford. They face charges of arson with intent to endanger life and remain in custody.
“This was a serious and deeply concerning incident which has understandably caused distress within the community,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore. “Our investigation remains ongoing as we continue to build a clear picture of the events that took place.”
Police Plead for Witnesses
Officers are working closely with local residents and faith leaders to offer reassurance following the attack. Earlier, four men were arrested but later released without charge.
