Police have arrested a third man following a fatal hit-and-run on the A289 in Gillingham that resulted in the death of an elderly pedestrian.
The tragic incident occurred just after noon on Monday, 29 December 2025, when a grey Mercedes estate struck a man in his 80s on Gads Hill. The driver fled the scene, while two passengers ran off on foot down nearby Eastcourt Lane.
Emergency services discovered the victim lying on Grange Road. Despite efforts by the South East Coast Ambulance Service, the elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier on the same day, police arrested a 29-year-old man from Chatham and a 28-year-old man with no fixed address. Both remain in police custody.
On Tuesday, 30 December, a third suspect was taken into custody. He is a 28-year-old man from Edgware, London.
Detective Inspector Zoe Wilczek of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We thank everyone who has helped so far. We are not looking for any more suspects at this time, but we urge anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle and pedestrian beforehand to get in touch.”
She added, “If you caught any footage on dashcam or CCTV and haven’t contacted us yet, please do so.”
