Terror police have sealed off the M3 Motorway in Hampshire after both the northbound and southbound lanes were shut due to a major incident near Eastleigh Airport. Specialist officers, bomb disposal teams, and explosive detection dogs were deployed to the scene early on Saturday morning.
The motorway closure occurred just before 4am, resulting in thousands of drivers being caught in standstill traffic. Motorists were forced to seek alternative routes while police conducted their investigation.
A white van was observed leaving the area under blue lights, reportedly carrying a sample of suspicious materials that are currently undergoing testing. Despite the presence of Hampshire Fire and Rescue and South Central Ambulance Service, authorities have not disclosed details about the nature of the threat.
At the scene, a communication van and a white tent were set up as scene of crime officers in protective paper suits carefully examined the area. The navy bomb disposal unit and explosive detection dogs remained on high alert. The bridge over the motorway continues to be closed and guarded by officers.
Police have declined to provide further information, citing national security concerns. A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance said: “We are currently supporting Hampshire Police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at an incident on the M3 that has closed both carriageways between junctions 9 and 11. Please find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.”
With terror police and bomb squads actively involved, the situation remains tense and closely monitored. Locals and commuters are advised to stay clear of the M3 until authorities confirm it is safe to return.
