Police were called just before 1.30pm on Saturday following reports of a shooting outside St Aloysius Church on Phoenix Road, Camden. Superintendent Jack Rowlands of Camden and Islington Neighbourhoods confirmed that several people were injured by shotgun pellets in the incident.
Four women, aged between 21 and 54, were rushed to central London hospitals. Thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening, although one 48-year-old woman remains seriously ill. Two children were also hurt in the attack. A 12-year-old girl suffered a leg injury but was released from hospital the same day and is expected to make a full recovery. A seven-year-old girl remains in a stable yet critical condition. “Our thoughts are with her and her family,” said Superintendent Rowlands.
The shooting occurred while mourners were gathered outside the church after a funeral. The suspects reportedly fired a shotgun from a moving black Toyota C-HR, believed to be a 2019 model or similar.
“People came here to mourn loved ones. They became victims of a senseless act of violence,” said Superintendent Rowlands. “We know this will impact Camden deeply, and you’ll see an increased police presence to reassure the community.”
The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation, with detectives working around the clock. Superintendent Rowlands urged the public to come forward with any information. “We need anyone who saw or knows anything about this attack to come forward. No detail is too small.”
