Tragedy struck the A2 in Cobham after a serious collision involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a lorry. The crash occurred on the coastbound carriageway and has now resulted in a second fatality.

Kent Police responded to the scene at 4:14 PM on Friday, May 31. Two lorries had been parked on the hard shoulder when the Mercedes Sprinter collided with one of them. The cause of the collision remains unknown. The lorry driver sustained minor injuries.

The van driver, a 50-year-old man, died instantly at the scene. His passenger, aged 20, was airlifted to a hospital in London but sadly passed away from severe injuries on Tuesday, June 4. Next of kin for both victims have been informed and are receiving support during this difficult time.

Kent Police are urgently appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. If you witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles beforehand, please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 or email [email protected], quoting reference EX/HG/058/24. Dashcam footage can also be uploaded via the Kent Police website.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of this devastating crash.
