Schoolboy Hit by Works Van on Aylesbury Railway Bridge

Aylesbury police launched a major investigation after a schoolboy was struck by a red Vauxhall van in the early hours of Tuesday, April 5, 2017. The accident took place just after midnight on Ellen Road, near the railway bridge close to a speed camera.

Boy Rushed to Hospital After Collision

The youngster, understood to be a pupil at Mandeville School, was crossing the road to attend a local football event when the van hit him. Emergency services responded quickly, with the boy rushed to hospital by ambulance and air ambulance crews attending the scene.

A local resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I heard a loud bang while working in my garden. The lad looked pretty bad, and the van’s windscreen was completely smashed.”

Road Closure and Police Appeal

Police closed Ellen Road overnight to carry out accident investigations, including skid tests on the vehicle. Officers from the Hampshire and Thames Valley joint operation based in Amersham are appealing for witnesses. It is not yet known if the van’s driver has been arrested, though police have taken a first account.

Transport Disruptions and Updates

Local transport officials tweeted that Bus Route 9 will currently terminate at Mandeville School and is not serving the hospital while investigations continue. Police have since recovered the van on a lowloader, and the road closure guarded by two PSCOs has been lifted.

The boy’s family has been informed, and Thames Valley Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
