A beloved woman has died in a horrific hit-and-run incident in Portsmouth. Sharon Randall, aged 55, was fatally struck by a car on Winston Churchill Avenue on Tuesday, 3 August.
Police responded to reports of a collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a pedestrian at 9.32pm. Tragically, Sharon Randall, known to friends and family as Polly, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a resident of Waterloo Street, Southsea.
Polly’s family have paid a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a “much-loved partner of 33 years” and a vibrant individual who made a lasting impression on everyone she met. They said: “Polly was a huge character that neither family, friends nor others who knew her will ever forget. Her memory will live on through the smiles and joy of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest in peace, our Polly. You’ll be forever in our hearts.”
They also requested privacy during this difficult time, stating: “At this sad time, we ask for privacy as we come to terms with this devastating loss.”
The Vauxhall Corsa involved in the collision fled the scene but was located nearby shortly after. Two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
A 32-year-old man from Cosham faces multiple charges including dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving, driving over the alcohol limit, and drug driving. He has been released under investigation.
A 36-year-old woman, also from Cosham, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the limit but has since been released with no further action.
