Clash at Epping: Protests Spark Police Action

Tensions flared as 123 protesters gathered against a local hotel, with a counter-protest group assembling later near Epping Tube Station. Police escorted the rival group to their designated area around 4:00pm.

Police Bring in Heavy Measures

To keep the peace, officers enforced a Section 60AA order, banning face coverings. Separate zones were set up to allow both sides to demonstrate lawfully and safely.

A police spokesperson said: “Our role is to ensure that you can express your democratic right to protest safely and lawfully. We maintained a proportionate and peaceful atmosphere.”

Arrests and Reinforcements

  • A 52-year-old was arrested for a public order offence.
  • In total, three individuals were detained during the protest.

With one of the largest protests yet, Essex Police called in mutual aid officers to help manage the crowds and protect public safety.
