An emergency care assistant named Rob had his only mode of transport stolen while he was out saving lives for the South Central Ambulance Service in Portsmouth.
The theft occurred at the ambulance station when Rob was responding to 999 calls.
The bike, a unique custom-built NS Soda, was taken by one male who used bolt cutters to snip through a padlock. He then passed the bike over a fence to two accomplices waiting outside.
A Tesco van driver witnessed the theft and attempted to stop the trio, but they managed to escape. The incident took place between 8.30pm and 9pm.
For Rob, this was not just any bike — it was his only way to get to and from work. Due to his shift patterns and limited public transport options, losing the bike has had a significant impact on him.
The South Central Ambulance Service launched an appeal to find the stolen bike. The response from the public has been overwhelming, with locals offering small donations to help Rob replace his vital transport.
Rob said, “I am very humbled by the kind offers of donations. I cannot afford to replace the bike on my own but obviously need to have transport for work. Public transport isn’t always an option with my shifts. If people want to donate towards a replacement, donations can be made via this site. Thank you.”
Hampshire Police are treating the incident seriously and are investigating the robbery under reference number 44180180218. They are urging anyone who might be offered the bike for sale to come forward immediately.
Rob’s bike is more than just metal and wheels — it is a life-saving tool. The community and authorities are calling for help to catch the criminals and return his wheels to the road.
