Two men were caught red-handed hiding out in an outbuilding in Normacot following a dramatic car theft incident. The events began just before midnight on Sunday, March 16, when the suspects broke into a home near Newport Road, Eccleshall, and stole a grey Volkswagen.
Staffordshire Police, who were on patrol nearby, spotted the stolen Volkswagen travelling in convoy with another vehicle on a dual carriageway. The Volkswagen managed to escape, but officers pursued the second car, which was later abandoned by the roadside as the suspects fled on foot. Police confirmed that the second vehicle was also stolen, increasing the seriousness of the investigation.
Using expert tracking skills, police dog PD Maddie located the suspects hiding in an outbuilding on Sefton Road, just off the A50 in Normacot, approximately 12 miles from the original crime scene. The two suspects, aged 20 and 21 and both from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft, and drug driving. They are currently being questioned in police custody.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said, “We’re working hard to pursue the organised crime groups responsible for vehicle theft across Staffordshire. Officers are working closely with our 24/7 road crime team and specialist resources to go after those involved and to protect the belongings of the communities we proudly serve.”
