Three terrorists were shot dead after a deadly rampage on London Bridge and Borough Market last night, leaving six innocent victims dead and 30 injured, including an off-duty British Transport Police officer.
At 10:08pm, reports emerged that a vehicle had ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge. The attackers then drove to Borough Market, where they exited the vehicle and began stabbing people at random. An on-duty British Transport Police officer who responded to the scene was seriously injured but is expected to survive. His family has been informed.
Armed officers arrived on the scene within eight minutes and confronted the three male suspects in Borough Market, shooting them dead. The terrorists appeared to be wearing explosive vests, which were later confirmed to be fake.
Emergency services including the Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police, City of London Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade are actively managing the situation. Six hospitals across London are treating at least 30 casualties from the attacks.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said, “We are treating this as a terrorist incident and a full investigation is underway. We are asking the public to avoid London Bridge and Borough Market to allow emergency services to do their work.”
