Thames Valley Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman in her 60s found dead in woodland at Watlington Hill National Trust Estate, Oxfordshire, on the evening of Thursday, 23 October.
The woman’s body was discovered at approximately 5.53pm. Officers quickly arrested a man on suspicion of murder. The suspect remains in police custody but was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Detective Superintendent Craig Kirby from the Major Crime Unit said: “We have tonight launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in woodland earlier this evening. My thoughts remain with the deceased woman’s family at what must be a hugely distressing time.”
He added: “We are piecing together what led to this woman’s death. We have arrested a man suspected of murder who is currently receiving hospital treatment.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information, particularly if anyone saw anything suspicious in the Watlington Hill area just before 6pm on Thursday.
Detectives are also tentatively linking the case to reports of a man acting strangely near the Fox and Hounds pub in Christmas Common, Watlington, at around 3.30pm on the same day.
