M27 Chaos: Junction 7 Exit Shut After Horrific Crash
Police have shut the M27 westbound exit slip at Junction 7 Hedge End East near Southampton after a serious collision this morning. The accident involving an overturned vehicle has forced authorities to close all lanes of the exit slip road at the A334/B3036 (Hedge End).
Emergency Services Swarm Scene
Firefighters, ambulance crews, and police are at the scene dealing with the crash. Officials warn the junction will remain closed until at least 12:15pm as they clear debris and conduct recovery operations. Injuries to those involved have not yet been confirmed.
Delays to Continue Until Late Afternoon
An update at 1pm confirms that Junction 7 is expected to stay shut until 4pm. Contractors working for the Highways Agency are replacing crash barriers damaged in the collision and removing wreckage from the road.
Another Crash Adds to Traffic Nightmare
To make matters worse, a BMW 1 Series aquaplaned on the westbound carriageway before Junction 7 and smashed into the central reservation. Emergency services have moved the vehicle to the hard shoulder. Thankfully, this second incident isn’t believed to be serious but is causing further delays.
Drivers heading towards Hamble and nearby areas are urged to follow posted diversions and expect heavy congestion.
