Firefighters are currently battling a massive blaze at the old Wade Ceramics factory located on Westport Road in Burslem. Thick, choking smoke is billowing from the building, prompting local residents to describe the scene as “absolutely horrific.”

Six fire engines have been deployed to the site as crews work urgently to control the spreading flames. Eyewitnesses have reported a strong smell of burning rubber in the air, with visibility on the street reduced to near zero. One local resident commented, “You literally could not see anything up or down the street — no houses and no people.”

A spokesperson from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue stated, “We currently have six crews in attendance at a large fire on Westport Road, in Burslem. Please avoid this area while we deal with this incident.” The fire broke out early on Saturday evening, 27 April, causing significant disruption to the surrounding neighbourhood.

Staffordshire Police have been contacted for comment but have not yet confirmed if there are any injuries related to the fire. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 101.
