A 24-year-old man is fighting for his life following a vicious attack on Neville Street in the early hours of the morning. The assault occurred just after midnight, leaving the victim seriously injured.
Police were called to the scene at around 12.20am after reports of an assault. The victim was walking alone when another man approached and punched him directly in the face. The force of the blow caused the victim to fall to the ground, hitting his head hard.
Emergency services quickly arrived and rushed the injured man to hospital. He was diagnosed with a fractured skull and remains in critical but stable condition.
Northumbria Police have launched an intensive investigation into the incident. Officers are keen to speak to a man who was seen nearby and may have vital information about the assault.
The man police want to speak to is described as a white male, approximately 6ft tall with a medium build. He has a black or dark brown fade haircut and a full light brown or ginger beard. At the time, he was wearing a bright blue jumper, black skinny jeans, and Tommy Mallett shoes.
