Police have opened a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a man in his 20s near The Wheatsheaf pub in Ewell, Surrey. The incident occurred in an alleyway beside the pub on Kingston Road shortly after 3.30pm on Tuesday, 9 December.
Emergency services responded quickly to reports of a stabbing. Despite the efforts of police officers, paramedics, and bystanders, the young victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and is receiving support during this difficult time.
Kingston Road and Chessington Road were closed overnight as part of the investigation, but these road closures have since been lifted while inquiries continue.
The Surrey and Sussex Police Major Crime Team is leading the investigation. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey said, “My thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man who has lost his life. I want to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation as our officers work tirelessly to find those responsible. You will see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. We are appealing for anyone with information – no matter how small – to come forward.
