A man in his 20s was attacked after a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight at the MECA venue in Regent Circus, Swindon, on Saturday, March 5. The incident occurred just before 11pm following the conclusion of the MMA event.

The victim, who is from Hampshire, suffered serious injuries including a fractured jaw and wounds to his head and eye socket. He was taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment after the assault.

Police have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, under Section 18 GBH. The suspect has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Detective Constable Helen Bott from Swindon CID said: “This was a nasty incident which left the victim with several injuries. Enquiries have been ongoing since the incident and we have arrested one individual. However, we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault, including anyone who may have mobile phone footage of an altercation inside the arena towards the end of the event at around 10.50pm.”

Police are asking anyone with information or footage to contact them by calling 101 and quoting crime reference 54220023151. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
