Dorset Police were called at 3.13pm on Friday 14 January 2022 after a man in his 50s was found unresponsive in an alley at the end of Shelbourne Road. Ambulance crews attended the scene, but sadly the man was pronounced dead.
Initially, police believed the death was not suspicious. However, further investigations uncovered troubling details, including the use of the victim’s bank cards after his death. This led detectives to launch a public appeal on 24 January, requesting information about any unusual activity near the alleyway.
A forensic post-mortem conducted on 26 January confirmed the man died from injuries sustained, prompting Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team to open a murder investigation.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Dudfield said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this very difficult time. Following the post-mortem, several arrests have been made.”
Four people have been arrested in connection with the investigation. Three men from Bournemouth, aged 28 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery. Additionally, a 27-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation. All remain in police custody.
Detectives have identified a critical window between 2.50pm and 3.05pm on the day of the incident. They urge anyone who saw people entering or fleeing the alley near the A338 Wessex Way between Shelbourne Road and Malmesbury Park Road to come forward. CCTV or dashcam footage could prove vital to the investigation.
Local officers will continue to patrol the area and are available to address any community concerns.
