A terrifying collision between two double-decker buses has left several people injured on Newington Causeway, Southwark. The crash occurred just after 8am on Wednesday 18 February 2026, prompting an immediate emergency response.
The road was closed in both directions as police, ambulance, and fire crews worked at the scene to manage the incident and assist those affected.
The Metropolitan Police were called at 8:06am and quickly dispatched officers to the location. A Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed: “Officers are responding to a collision between two buses in Newington Causeway, Southwark. A number of people were treated on scene with injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made while investigations continue.”
The London Ambulance Service also responded with ambulance crews, the hazardous area response team, and the London Air Ambulance. They stated: “Several patients are being treated at the scene.”
London Fire Brigade arrived following reports of the crash near Avonmouth Street and Newington Causeway. They confirmed that two buses collided, causing slight damage to a nearby building, including the Southwark Playhouse. Firefighters made the scene safe and supported ambulance staff. The incident was declared over by 10am.
Multiple injuries were reported, but none are life-threatening. The Southwark Playhouse sustained some damage from the impact. Emergency services remain on site as investigations continue.
Residents and commuters are urged to avoid the area while clean-up and investigation efforts are ongoing.
