Knife Amnesty Bins Planted in Aldershot and Farnborough to Slash Knife Crime
Knife amnesty bins have sprung up outside Aldershot police station and Rushmoor Borough Council offices in Farnborough to tackle the rising knife crime menace. The Rushmoor Neighbourhood Policing Team and Rushmoor Borough Council have teamed up to take blades off the streets—no questions asked.
Drop Your Knives, Stay Safe
From Monday 20 August until Friday 25 August, anyone can anonymously dump knives or bladed articles in secure bins placed at Aldershot Police Station on Wellington Avenue and Rushmoor Borough Council offices on Farnborough Road. No prosecutions, no hassle.
Operation Sceptre Cracks Down
This knife amnesty is part of the wider Operation Sceptre campaign by Hampshire Constabulary, aiming to remove knives from circulation and warn about the deadly risks. Rushmoor District Inspector Phil Mayne said,
“Sadly, like other towns and cities, Aldershot and Farnborough are not immune to knife crime, and often incidents are suspected to be drug-related.”
“People carry knives for lots of reasons—fear or thinking it’ll protect them. But carrying a blade just raises the chances of being seriously hurt, killed, or arrested.”
Inspector Mayne added the joint effort with Rushmoor Borough Council means safer drop-off points for knives without fear of prosecution.
Council Backs the Fight
Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Operational Services, Councillor Maurice Sheehan, said:
“We’re pleased to be working with the Police on this important initiative, which will make Rushmoor a safer place to live and work. Carrying a knife is a risk not worth taking—for the carrier and everyone around them. Anything that helps police get more knives off the streets is a smart move.”
