The family of Becky Wall, who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident on the Isle of Wight, are facing an additional ordeal as scammers exploit their tragedy. While Becky’s loved ones keep a bedside vigil, fraudsters have created fake Facebook profiles impersonating Alex Blundell, falsely pleading for Amazon gift cards to “help the family.”
The official GoFundMe page set up for Becky’s recovery is receiving genuine support, but numerous fake profiles are attempting to deceive kind-hearted supporters by requesting donations under false pretences.
Alexander Blundell has publicly stated: “THIS IS NOT ME. I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER DIRECTLY MESSAGE PEOPLE FOR DONATIONS OR GIFT CARDS.”
This scam is not only unethical but also illegal. Fraudulently soliciting funds by deception carries serious legal consequences. Readers are advised to remain vigilant and only contribute through the official GoFundMe page.
Meanwhile, Hampshire Police continue their investigation into the hit-and-run. Officers are searching for the two occupants of a BMW who fled the scene on Briddlesford Road at around 5.45pm last Thursday after colliding with Becky Wall. She remains in Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 704.
