Security has been increased at St Catherine’s Church graveyard in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, following a serious sex attack, authorities have confirmed. Police have sealed off the area and are maintaining a high level of alert to ensure public safety.

Officers quickly responded to the incident and pursued the suspect, who initially fled the scene. The individual was later apprehended and is currently held at Newport Police Station. The victim is receiving specialist care and is being interviewed by trained officers to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The Island CID is leading the investigation into the assault. A crime scene has been established at the graveyard, with forensic teams expected to carry out a detailed examination. Hampshire Police have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
