Wyvern Technology College in Hampshire was placed on full lockdown this morning after an intruder refused to leave the premises. Staff were quickly alerted, and police arrived promptly to arrest the individual on site.
Hampshire Police confirmed they are working closely with local schools to ensure the safety of students and staff. A police spokesperson said, “The college acted swiftly. At no point were pupils at risk. We’re continuing the investigation and will deal with the offender accordingly.”
Parents praised the college’s rapid response and clear communication throughout the incident. An email sent to parents explained the lockdown measures: “This morning I decided to place the college into lockdown for 20 minutes as a precaution due to an intruder who wouldn’t leave. Students were kept in classrooms from period 1, and PE classes were called indoors. The lockdown stayed in place until police arrived, arrested the individual, and gave the all-clear. The safety of students is our priority. We will improve site security with Hampshire County Council and maintain high staff supervision at all times.”
The intruder was unarmed and monitored closely from arrival. He is not known to the college as a student or parent. The police investigation is ongoing.
The college shares its campus with an Infant and Junior school, who were also informed promptly about the situation. Plans to enhance site security are being developed in partnership with Hampshire County Council. Staff remain vigilant to prevent any future security breaches.
Despite rumours on social media, the college emphasised that the intruder posed no immediate threat. All pupils have now safely returned to their lessons.
