30-Year-Old Man Arrested in Great Barr Terror Sting
Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands swooped on a 30-year-old man during a pre-planned strike against suspected terror activity. The man was arrested from an address in Great Barr on Wednesday morning.
Suspect Held Over Support for Banned Group
The suspect is being questioned on suspicion of expressing support for a proscribed organisation. He remains in custody as specialist officers continue their probe. A search was also carried out at a property in Aston, though no further arrests have been made yet.
What’s a Proscribed Organisation?
Under the Terrorism Act 2000, proscribed organisations are outlawed groups linked to terrorism or deemed dangerous. It’s illegal to join, back, or promote these groups in any way.
Police Reassure Public: No Wider Threat
“Today’s arrest was part of a planned policing operation. A 30-year-old man was arrested in Great Barr on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act. He is in custody and searches are being carried out at other addresses. Enquiries continue.”
Authorities stressed there is no wider risk to the public at this stage as investigations continue.
