Kent Police have extended custody for a 24-year-old suspect following a serious stabbing that left a soldier with multiple wounds in Gillingham.

The brutal assault took place at Sally Port Gardens, Gillingham, just before 6pm on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Officers rushed to the scene after reports of the attack. They found the victim – a soldier in his 40s – suffering from several stab wounds. He was quickly taken to hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

The attacker, a local man, fled on a motorcycle but was caught within half an hour on Mooring Road, Rochester. Since his arrest, he has been held for questioning as police launched a full investigation.

Due to the severity of the assault, detectives secured a custody extension beyond the usual 24 hours. This gives officers more time to gather evidence and piece together exactly what happened during the violent encounter.

Kent Police have urged anyone who saw the attack or has information to come forward. The community is reeling from this violent incident, especially as it involved a member of the armed forces.

Authorities promise a thorough probe to deliver justice for the victim.
