Chaos erupted in Dunston, Gateshead, on Friday night when a funeral car was driven straight onto a local football pitch. The unusual and alarming incident prompted a swift response from Northumbria Police.
Officers quickly arrested four men in connection with the disturbance. Three of those arrested are suspected of affray, including two aged 19 and one aged 32. Additionally, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage. All four remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
Northumbria Police have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the pitch invasion and identify all involved parties. The force is treating the matter seriously and is committed to uncovering the full circumstances behind the incident.
