Police raced to Phoenix Road, NW1, at 1.30pm on Saturday, 14 January after reports of a shooting shocked mourners outside a church in Camden.
Emergency crews arrived swiftly, including London’s Air Ambulance. Three women, aged 41, 48, and 54, were rushed to a central London hospital. Their injuries are mostly non-life threatening, although the 48-year-old faces potentially life-changing damage. Shortly after, a seven-year-old girl suffering from injuries believed to be linked to the same incident was also taken to hospital. Her condition remains unknown.
The chilling attack unfolded during a funeral service for Fresia Calderon, 50, and her daughter Sara Sanchez, 20, who died just a month apart. The victims had gathered to mourn—the church on Phoenix Road was packed with grieving friends and family. Reports indicate the shots were fired from a moving car that sped off after the shooting.
Police confirmed no arrests have been made yet, but a major investigation is underway, with a heavy police presence at the scene.
Fresia passed away after collapsing at Heathrow Airport in November, caused by a pulmonary embolism. Sara lost her battle to leukaemia just weeks after diagnosis, aged 17. Both deaths have left the local community devastated.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.28pm today (14 January) to reports of a shooting in Phoenix Road, Camden. Three ambulance crews, paramedics, and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene. We treated four people; one was seriously injured and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
