Four suspects have been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Peterborough. The incident occurred near the Orton Centre on Riseholme just before 7pm on Sunday, 12 April, when police responded to reports of an attack on a teenager.
The boy was rushed to hospital but sadly died later that evening. Detectives have now classified the case as murder.
Among those arrested are a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, both held on suspicion of murder. Additionally, a 17-year-old girl from Peterborough faces charges for assisting an offender, while a 16-year-old girl from March has been arrested for assisting an offender and possession of a bladed article.
All four suspects remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station as the investigation continues.
A police cordon remains in place around the Orton Centre, with officers promising an increased presence in the coming days to reassure the local community.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man. We are in contact with his family and keeping them updated.”
He added, “While we understand this will concern local people, we do not believe this was a random attack. There will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days.”
DCI Stott urged anyone with information or CCTV footage related to the attack to come forward immediately to assist the ongoing investigation.
