Emergency services rushed to Hornchurch on Thursday afternoon after a Ford Fiesta smashed into a lamp post, narrowly missing a nearby Toyota car showroom.

The collision left the lamp post badly damaged and airbags deployed inside the Fiesta. Police, paramedics, and firefighters swarmed the scene, cordoning off the area for safety. Power to the lamp post was cut to prevent further hazards.

The Fiesta zoomed within metres of wrecking a forecourt packed with pricey new Toyota cars — a near disaster avoided by the narrowest of margins.

Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported. The driver’s condition remains unconfirmed. A safety sticker was placed on the damaged vehicle as inquiries continue.

The London Fire Brigade has since declared the zone safe. Engineers are on site restoring power to the damaged streetlight. The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been contacted for updates.
