Five Crooks Nabbed After Daring Campervan Heist in South Yorkshire

Five crooks have been slammed behind bars after stealing a campervan in South Yorkshire – but thanks to two police dogs, a stinger tyre spike, and expert teamwork, they never had a chance.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Glossop After Police Sting

At 10:42pm on Sunday, South Yorkshire Police received a frantic 999 call reporting a stolen campervan in Sheffield’s Arbourthorne. Within 20 minutes, a dog handler spotted the vehicle hurtling down the A57 towards Ladybower. Predicting the thieves would take dangerous risks, officers joined forces with Derbyshire Constabulary. A stinger strip near Glossop shredded the campervan’s tyres, bringing the chase screeching to an end.

Police Dogs Track Down Fleeing Thieves

Two men bailed on the campervan and tried to flee on foot – a huge blunder. Police dogs quickly closed in, cornering the suspects. A search of the vehicle uncovered stolen goods. Tests revealed the driver was high on cocaine.

Rochdale Gang Busted, Face Multiple Charges

The five suspects – four men aged 25, 35, 49, and 55, plus a 23-year-old woman – had travelled all the way from Rochdale to South Yorkshire to carry out the thefts. They were arrested for:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Theft from a vehicle
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving over the prescribed drug limit
  • Going equipped for theft

All five have been released on police bail while investigations continue. Two forces, two police dogs, and a stinger strip shut these crooks down cold. This is how you catch thieves.
