Police are currently hunting two men following a brutal assault on an 18-year-old cyclist in Bootle. The incident took place at around 9pm on Friday, 3rd February, near the junction of Myerscough Avenue and Southport Road.
The victim had stopped his bicycle by an electricity substation when two white men, believed to be in their mid-20s, suddenly exited a white van marked “Highway Maintenance.” Armed with a metal bar, the attackers launched a savage assault on the young man, resulting in a broken jaw that required surgery.
Detective Inspector Jay Halpin condemned the unprovoked attack, stating, “This was a shocking attack which caused serious facial injuries.” Police have since begun house-to-house enquiries and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects.
DI Halpin also appealed to eyewitnesses and nearby taxi or delivery drivers to check their dash cams for any relevant footage that could assist the investigation.
