Two masked thieves smashed their way into a Wolverhampton garage and stole motorbikes from a beloved Christmas Grinch display, leaving the family-run business shocked and questioning the future of the festive tradition.
The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, 3 January, at MG Accident Repair Centre located in Four Ashes. CCTV footage captured the brazen burglary, showing the two intruders wearing gloves and masks as they smashed a showroom window to access the prized scrambler bikes.
The thieves knocked over the Grinch decorations, which included two characters surrounded by fake snow, presents, a sleigh, and a red car. They then grabbed two motorbikes and hauled them through the broken window before loading the stolen machines into a van without number plates.
Owner Grace Hughes expressed her disappointment, saying the festive Grinch display was created to spread Christmas cheer. She now questions whether continuing the tradition is worth the risk. “It’s just something nice to see as you drive past, but now I don’t know if we’ll continue – is it worth the risk? It’s such a shame,” Hughes said.
Staffordshire Police were called to Enterprise Drive around 8pm on 3 January following reports of the break-in. Several high-value bikes were taken, and the two suspects remain at large.
MG Accident Repair Centre has offered a £1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. Police are urging anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 581 of 3 January, or to report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
