A powerful new campaign is urging Londoners to break the silence on knife crime. Grieving mothers who have lost their sons to fatal stabbings share their heart-wrenching stories, encouraging people to call Crimestoppers anonymously with any information that could help prevent further tragedies.
These brave mums reveal the painful moments when they had to deliver devastating news to their families. Lillian Serunkuma said, “It can be hard to make the call to say someone is involved in knife crime, especially if it’s someone you know or love. But it’s so much harder if you don’t.”
Yvonne Lawson MBE heartbreakingly recalled, “Godwin was stolen away from us in such a terrible way. My family is broken into pieces… The least we can do is use his memory to change lives.”
Jean Foster warned, “Keeping quiet empowers them. No one is safe if we keep quiet.” Pastor Lorraine Jones described her moment of shock: “I had to call my mum. It was the hardest call – I was out of breath, my hands were shaking. I was helpless and weak.”
Becky Beston’s pain was raw: “I had to call a stranger about getting Archie embalmed. Ever. If somebody would have made that phone call, my Arch would be here now.”
The campaign launches with screenings of the mums’ emotional short films at New Scotland Yard, hosted by Commissioner Cressida Dick. These films will be supported by adverts on radio, social media, and popular websites targeting knife crime hotspots across London.
