Seven sexual assaults have been reported along the Bridgewater Canal area and nearby locations in Trafford between March 2 and March 7, 2021. Police believe a single suspect, described as a slim male on a mountain bike, committed each attack by approaching victims from behind, groping them, and then quickly riding away.
The attacks took place at the following times and locations:
- 6pm, March 2 – Bridgewater Canal, Sale
- 6.20pm, March 3 – Bridgewater Canal, Sale
- 9.20am, March 6 – Bridgewater Canal, Sale
- 4.50pm, March 6 – Bridgewater Way, Old Trafford
- 6.20pm, March 6 – Little Ees Lane, Sale
- 6.45pm, March 6 – River Mersey (exact spot unknown)
- 10.42am, March 7 – Bridgewater Canal, Timperley
Fortunately, no physical injuries have been reported, but victims have been left shaken and distressed by the incidents.
The suspect is described as a young, slim male approximately 5 feet tall, usually wearing dark clothing. This is the extent of the information currently available to police.
Sergeant Helen Bagnall of Greater Manchester Police’s Trafford District said: “Due to the similarity and pattern of this offending, we believe the same person is responsible. If you have seen anyone matching this description, or spotted suspicious behaviour in these areas, please come forward. No one was physically hurt, but the victims are understandably distressed.”
