Armed Kent Police officers responded to a serious incident at Saddlebrook Park Holiday Park on the Isle of Sheppey last night.
Officers were called to Warden Bay Road, Leysdown, at 8.14pm after reports that a woman had been struck by a vehicle near Saddlebrook Park. Witnesses claimed the driver was armed, which led to a swift armed response from Kent Police and the deployment of six South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) vehicles.
Police contractors recovered a white van and a grey BMW from the scene. Additionally, another vehicle was seized nearby on Danes Drive. A man was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. Sources have indicated that both parties involved are known to each other, but the full circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
The injured woman received treatment at the scene before being rushed to a local hospital by ambulance for further care. The Kent and Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance was called to the island but later returned to base without transporting anyone.
A Kent Police spokesperson said, “Officers were called following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Witnesses reported the driver was believed to be armed. Armed officers attended and found a woman with injuries from the collision. She was taken to hospital for treatment. A man was arrested and enquiries continue.”
The tense incident has shocked local residents, some of whom reported seeing the driver appear armed during the event.
