The A2 westbound is currently closed near Canterbury after police stopped a white vehicle between the A2050 (Canterbury East / Bridge) and the A28 Thanington Road (Wincheap).
Officers have deployed a dog handler and search dogs to conduct a thorough search of the carriageway. Traffic is moving very slowly, and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes while the police operation continues.

A National Highways spokesman said: “The A2 is closed westbound between the A2050 and A28 near Canterbury due to a police-led incident. National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene assisting with traffic management.”
Diversions have been put in place and drivers are advised to follow solid square signs. The suggested route is to exit the A2 onto the A2050 (Dover Road) towards Canterbury, continue on the A2050 to the junction with Upper Chantry Lane, merging with the A257. Then proceed to the A28 roundabout at Upper Bridge Street, take the A28 Canterbury Ring Road to the Wincheap roundabout, go straight onto the A290 to St Peters Place, and then back to the A2050 towards the A2 at Harbledown.
Motorists should stay updated on the situation and avoid the area if possible to reduce delays.
