Woman Battles for Life After Terrifying Cliff Fall in Swanage

A woman in her 50s is fighting for her life after a devastating fall from a cliff at Swanage, Dorset.

Grim Rescue at Peveril Point

Emergency services were scrambled just after 2:30pm on Saturday when a member of the public spotted the woman plunge over the cliff edge at Peveril Point. The UK Coastguard quickly coordinated a complex rescue operation involving two Coastguard teams from Swanage and St Albans, plus the dramatic airlift by “Rescue 106” helicopter from Portland.

Serious Head and Chest Injuries

The woman sustained critical head and chest injuries. After receiving urgent treatment at the scene, she was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital in a life-threatening condition. Dorset Police confirmed her family has been informed.

Emergency Services Praise Weather Battle

Chief Inspector Bob Acaster said: “Emergency services worked hard in very difficult weather to rescue the woman from the cliff and bring her to safety.”

Coastguard spokesman Steve Mann warned the public to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they spot anyone in trouble near cliffs.
