Tragedy struck in Mitcham when a young man died after being shot on Croydon Road in the early hours of Tuesday, 4 April. Police were called to the scene near Beddington Lane at around 2.25am following reports of a man seriously injured.
The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found with a gunshot wound. Emergency crews from the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and fought to save him, but he sadly died in hospital shortly after.
Metropolitan Police homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have taken over the investigation. A crime scene remains cordoned off as officers continue to search for answers. No arrests have been made at this time.
Police inquiries are ongoing to identify the victim’s next of kin and to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Detectives are urging anyone who was near Croydon Road and Beddington Lane around the time of the shooting to come forward with information. They are particularly keen to speak to road users with dash cams who may have captured important footage.
