Just after 5pm on Friday 14 June 2024, a woman was assaulted by a man she knew along the canal path at the Folkestone end of the Royal Military Canal, near Seabrook Road.

Kent Police acted quickly, arresting a 61-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on bail as investigations continue.

Police believe a cyclist who spoke to the victim shortly after the attack may hold important information. The cyclist is described as a white man around 70 years old, wearing a red T-shirt, cycling towards Hythe along the canal path.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, especially the cyclist or other witnesses, to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/98351/24. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through their online form.
