Police have intensified their search for a suspect after a 43-year-old woman was found dead inside a flat in Woolwich. Officers responded to an address on Argyll Road at 5:25 PM on January 17 following welfare concerns.
Upon forcing entry, police discovered the woman’s body. A post-mortem examination conducted on January 18 revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and a severe head injury. While the victim’s next of kin have been informed, formal identification is still pending.
Detectives from Specialist Crime South are leading the investigation. Early indications suggest the victim was acquainted with the suspect; however, no arrests have been made at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren said, “This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are very much with the victim’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers. At this early stage, we believe the suspect was known to the victim, and we are carrying out urgent enquiries to trace a named individual.”
The Metropolitan Police are appealing to the public for information to assist with the investigation. Anyone with relevant details is urged to call 101, quoting reference CAD 5231/17Jan, or to provide information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
