Two teenagers, aged just 16 and 14, have been charged after a corrosive substance attack at Surbiton railway station on November 29.
British Transport Police (BTP) noticed the pair acting suspiciously around 4.20pm. When officers attempted to question the teenagers, they were exposed to a substance believed to be alkaline, raising immediate concern.
Two officers were taken to hospital following the exposure but have since been discharged. Additionally, seven other officers, including two from the Metropolitan Police, required medical attention at the scene.
Surbiton station was temporarily closed as a result of the incident, causing disruption to train services. The investigation remains ongoing, with BTP encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
The teenagers, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, face charges of possession of a corrosive substance in a public place. They are scheduled to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on December 2.
