Two East Sussex police officers have been dismissed from the force after being found guilty of using excessive force on a teenager. PC Deborah Sands, 48, and PC Kris Green, 36, faced an accelerated misconduct hearing at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes on Monday, March 14.
The officers were charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). They were convicted in December 2021 for assaulting a teenage girl during a detention in Eastbourne in May 2020.
Due to the clear evidence against them, the Chief Constable fast-tracked the misconduct hearing to ensure their swift removal from service and placement on the barred list.
Chief Constable Jo Shiner commented, “We expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour. The actions of these two officers fell short of that and in accordance with the College of Policing guidance, they have been dismissed from the force.”
