At around 11.20pm on Wednesday 9 June 2021, a tragic collision occurred on Stockwell Road, SW9, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Shante Daniel-Folkes from Norwood, SE27. Two Metropolitan Police cars were responding to an emergency call when one of the patrol vehicles struck Ms Daniel-Folkes.
Despite urgent efforts by officers and paramedics at the scene, Ms Daniel-Folkes was pronounced dead.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched an independent investigation into the incident, with full support from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Following the investigation, the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for further legal action.
Two officers from the Central South Command Unit have been charged in connection with the fatal crash. PC Nadeem Patel faces a charge of causing death by dangerous driving under Section 1 of the Road Traffic Act, while PC Gary Thomson has been charged with dangerous driving under Section 2 of the same Act.
Both officers are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 17 October. They remain on restricted duties while the case proceeds.
