Two men have been charged after a fatal hit-and-run incident on the A289 in Gillingham on Monday, 29 December 2025.
At around 12:10pm, 89-year-old pensioner Thomas Wallace was struck by a grey Mercedes estate vehicle near Gads Hill. The driver fled the scene, leaving Thomas critically injured.
The abandoned car was later found on Eastcourt Lane, but both suspects had already fled on foot. Emergency teams located Thomas on Grange Road, where despite the efforts of the South East Coast Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
On 1 January 2026, 28-year-old Albert Matraxhiu from Edgware was charged with death by dangerous driving. His accomplice, 29-year-old Erald Paci from Chatham, faces charges of perverting the course of justice. Both men, who are Albanian nationals, have been remanded to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 2 January 2026.
