Justice at Last: Trowbridge Man Jailed for Raping Two Women a Decade Apart

A Trowbridge man has been slammed with a 16-and-a-half-year prison sentence for the brutal rape of two former partners, crimes committed ten years apart. Marcin Janikowski, 39, from Cusance Way, Hilperton, was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 19.

He faces 13 years and six months behind bars, followed by three years on licence, plus a restraining order to keep him away from his victims.

Shocking Crimes Spanning a Decade

  • Janikowski pleaded guilty to raping one woman in 2024 but later tried to backtrack.
  • He denied raping another woman back in 2014 but was found guilty after a trial in July 2025.

“I thought he was that missing piece that made my life complete. He stole my hopes, my dreams, my future and every day was filled with fear, sadness and made no sense… No amount of justice will ever undo the damage that he has caused to me, my family and so many others.”

Police Praise Victims’ Bravery in Long Fight for Justice

Detective Constable James Gatherum from the CID hailed the victims for their courage.

“First and foremost, I want to express my sincere gratitude to both victims. Without their determination to stand up to Janikowski, today’s outcome wouldn’t be possible.”

  • Janikowski violently raped the first victim in 2014, but police initially lacked the evidence to prosecute.
  • In January 2024, a second victim came forward, triggering a fresh investigation and eventual arrest.
  • The 2014 case was reopened and charges authorised after new evidence emerged.

“Today marks the end of a long and painful journey for both victims—each had their trust shattered by Janikowski, a decade apart. This sentence reflects how serious his crimes are and the danger he poses.”

DC Gatherum urged anyone suffering abuse to reach out, highlighting the many challenges victims face, from financial pressures to language barriers.
